The black-and-silver head contrasting with the bright yellow bill and dark maroon (almost black) body is diagnostic. Extent of black and silver on head varies regionally. Habitat: Usually thick undergrowth in deep forest, but also riverine thickets, gardens and plantations. Status: Scarce to locally common; noisy groups of 4–12 birds forage close to ground.
